Pan fry onions to caramelize. Set aside.
Boil broccoli and potatoes in broth until everything is soft enough to yield to a knifepoint. Place stalks and about 1 cup broth in blender and puree. Return to pot.
Place the potatoes and about 1 cup of broth in blender and puree. Return to pot.
Place onions in blender with about 2 cups of soup and puree. Put into pot.
Salt and pepper to taste.
