Recipe Information

Recipe Created By: Jana Robertson

Ingredients

3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup cornflakes
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions

Grease 9"x9" pan. Spread cornflakes in pan. (Try not to go to the edge, as this will make it easier to remove the hardened candy with a spatula.)

Heat sugar and margarine to boiling in saucepan, stirring constantly for 7 minutes.

Immediately spread on top of cornflakes. Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot mixture, and place cookie sheet over pan until the chocolate is melted. Spread the melted chocolate over the candy.

Cut into squares while hot. (Chocolate will still be soft - set bars aside, separated by wax paper.)

Refrigerate til firm.

Notes

Substitutions

Butter and Margarine: Butter is a dairy product made from cow’s milk. Margarine typically contains milk or soy, but there are milk-free and soy-free versions available.
Corn Substitutions: Corn is a common ingredient in products. Starch, modified food starch, dextrin and maltodextrin can be from corn. Consult with your physician to find out which corn derivatives you need to avoid. Many corn-free options are available in the US. Find out more about corn substitutions.
