Recipe Information

Recipe Created By: ALH

Ingredients

1/4 cup rice flour
1/4 cup canola oil
rice milk
broth (chicken, vegetable, etc)

Directions

Whisk equal parts canola oil and rice flour to make a roux over medium heat. Whisk in rice milk and broth until desired thickness is reached. Season with salt.

Notes

I serve this over vegetables, meat, or even breakfast dishes. If I desire a milder flavor, I use less broth/ pan drippings, and use more rice milk. Heart healthy and dairy-free!

How much broth/rice milk will depend on how thick you want your gravy. Basic rule of thumb is 1 Tbsp flour will thicken 1 cup liquid to a thin sauce consistency. Adjust amounts according to desired yield and thickness keeping the amount of oil and flour equal to each other.

Substitutions

Substitute rice milk with real milk or any milk substitute.
Gluten: Gluten is a protein found in specific grains (wheat, spelt, kamut, barley, rye). Other grains are naturally gluten-free but may have cross-contact with gluten-containing grains. Look for certified gluten-free products if you need to avoid gluten. Find out more about wheat and gluten substitutions [1].
Milk and Soy Substitutions: Alternative dairy-free milk beverages and products will work in most recipes. Find out more about milk substitutions [2] and soy substitutions [3].
