Recipe Created By: Cristi Schwamb

Ingredients

1 cup water
2 Tbsp margarine, softened
1 egg
3 1/4 cups bread flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
3 tsp bread machine yeast
melted margarine (optional)

Directions

Measure carefully, placing all ingredients except melted margarine in bread machine pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle. Do not use delay cycles.

Remove dough from pan, using lightly floured hands. Cover and let rest 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface.

Grease large cookie sheet. Divide dough into 16 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Cover and let rise in warm place 30 to 40 minutes or until double. Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.

Heat oven to 375 °F. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush tops with melted margarine (optional).

Notes

This will make 16 medium sized dinner rolls or about 10 hamburger buns. Be sure to pat them down fairly flat when you shape them if making hamburger rolls - they puff up quite a bit.

Substitutions

The egg can be replaced with 1 Tbsp Egg Replacer mixed with 2 Tbsp water. This will make the recipe not corn free though.
Butter and Margarine: Butter is a dairy product made from cow’s milk. Margarine typically contains milk or soy, but there are milk-free and soy-free versions available.
Egg Substitutions: There are many egg-free products and foods available to make your recipes free of eggs. Find out more about egg substitutions.
Gluten: Gluten is a protein found in specific grains (wheat, spelt, kamut, barley, rye). Other grains are naturally gluten-free but may have cross-contact with gluten-containing grains. Look for certified gluten-free products if you need to avoid gluten. Find out more about wheat and gluten substitutions.
