Sponsor | National Volunteer Week is coming up later this month. During April I'd like to let our subscribers and members know about the special work and dedication so many of our volunteers have for KFA. In this issue, we have a new Celebrating Passover with Food Allergies booklet you can download. The Passover booklet has a special dedication on the back of it from Yael Weinstein, our Education Materials Coordinator. |
"This booklet is in honor of my son so that he can participate in Judaism even though he cannot eat."
Yael's professional background is in Jewish Studies, and her son has eosinophilic disease and is currently on amino acid based formula only. She wanted to create ways for him and other children with food restrictions to be able to participate in Passover traditions in a meaningful way. The booklet, a labor of love, is the result of her efforts.
This is just one example of the gifts of time and talent our volunteers share with all of us so that other families can benefit. Thanks, Yael, and to our Jewish volunteers who helped in editing the booklet.

Announcements
The following are available to all Web site visitors:
The American Academy of Pediatrics issued a revised feeding policy in January for babies at risk for developing food allergy that includes updated recommendations for allergenic food consumption for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. KFA's Medical Advisory Team helped us develop this article to assist families in learning what's changed, and what the new policy does - and does not- address.
A 24 page booklet to help you in finding safe and meaningful ways to take part in the Seder when you are managing food allergies. This booklet includes nut-free, egg-free and wheat-free recipes, resources, activities and safe ways to celebrate the Seder when a child is on a limited or no foods diet.
[Download Booklet](requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)
There are certain hard-to-find items - especially products made without soy or corn - that are specially made for consumption during Passover. For some families managing restricted diets, Kosher for Passover foods can offer options not available otherwise.
Lynda Mitchell, Founder and President of Kids With Food Allergies, answers questions about food allergies, symptoms of anaphylaxis, and more on NPR's "The Health Show."

Just found out Peanut allergy...terrified
"I just found out that my 2.5 year old son has a severe peanut allergy and suspected tree nut. During the test, the peanut reaction was HUGE and the nurse said it was the biggest she's seen. I am now in a state of panic."
How do you get started when your child is diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy? Members help point a mom of a newly diagnosed child in the right direction.
Allergen free home or just a CAREFUL home?
"Just wondering how those of you with a home that has allergic and non-allergic members - do you all keep the house allergen-free or just use careful practices?"
One mom asks for opinions about whether it's best to completely eliminate allergenic foods from one's home, or just be extra careful.
